"Poggio al Lupo is a new project on the southern Tuscan coast, and owner Antonio Moretti and his oenologist Carlo Ferrini are clearly aiming high. The quality of the 2001 Poggio al Lupo, the first wine produced, is evident even if the vines themselves are extremely young. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante, and Petit Verdot, the powerful notes of roasted blackberry fruit, herbs, and tar are followed by flavors of real intensity and vigor. With a bit more flesh and weight – but these will come with time and older vines – this would be a superior wine, and it will continue to provide much pleasure between 2006 and 2012."
